Big news at the end of the football season

The Colorado State football team has had a hard season. They started out with a strong start then decreased rapidly. Fans stopped showing up to games and nobody had faith in them by the end of the season. News came Sunday that the Head Coach of Rams football Steve Fairchild was fired.

This news was not very shocking to anyone since there had been talk about it for quite some time now. Last week, Jack Graham took over as the new Athletic Director. When this was announced, people knew it was only a matter of time to hear the news about Fairchild. Many fans were happy with the departure and thought it was time for a much needed change.

"I am so happy that he's gone," said junior, interior design major, Rose Smith. "He started out good, but after his first season, he's just done bad."

The last game of the season was played last Saturday against Wyoming. The Rams came out strong and for awhile looked as though they might win the game, but late in the fourth quarter gave it up to Wyoming. The freshman quarterback, Garrett Grayson, did a great job till the end of the fourth where he was tackled in the end zone; leading to two extra points for Wyoming.

"This was a good game, but disappointing in the end," said senior, journalism major, Jaime Tavarez. "I look forward to next season, where there will be a new coach and hopefully a rested team."

The Athletic Media Relations also announced Sunday that the coaching staff would be looking nationally for a new coach. This is a great idea because bringing someone new in, could mean major changes for the team. The new coach would hopefully bring in new ideas, and fans could see these implemented on the field.

Even though the season was not the best, it brought huge changes to the football program. Next season should bring in new ideas and plays that will hopefully make the Colorado State football program a success.

  1. I really don't know what to think about the firing of Fairchild. I understand that we have not been winning games but I don't see how they expect to get an all-star coach when we have never been all that good. I think that the new hiring of our non experience AD is ridiculous. You should write a blog about him.

  2. While I hate to see someone fired, I agree with the departure of Fairchild. CSU football needs to rebuild their program from the ground up, and we have a young enough team to make it possible to do relatively quickly. I see promise in our young players early in games, in particular Grayson, but we can't seem to finish strong. Right now we're kind of the Lebron James of the Mountain West; completely nonexistent in the 4th.
