Well this semester was filled with many surprises. The Rams constantly worked their hardest and never gave up. Colorado State got another Athletic Director, who I feel like can actually do a great job for the program. Football was the most news worthy of all the sports. In one semester, we lost practically every game and in turn got another head coach.
It was just announced today, the new Rams Head Coach is Jim McElwain. He comes from working at Alabama for two and many other years of experience in both the NFL and NCAA football. After watching the press conference today, I feel like he could really turn the program around.
Besides football, every sport went through changes this semester. The women's basketball team started out with a rough season, but have since come back. The last two games they have played they have come out on top. They next play in Cancun, Mexico for conference.
The men's basketball team are kind of struggling right now. They have some great players on that team and I think they can overcome this and really show their strength here in the upcoming months.
Cross country had a good season overall. They had some great athletes that stood out on top in every conference they competed in. For the majority of their matches, the women's team always had at least one player in the top 10 out of a hundred athletes.
The women's golf team have shown their strength all season. In many tournaments, they placed within the top 10. The great thing about this team is that they are all committed to their teammates.
The CSU volleyball team has shown so much power throughout this season. They made it to the NCAA Championships in Hawaii and made it to the second round. They were consistently on top of all the Mountain West teams. They finished out the season with some great stats and hopefully next year show even more strength.

Women's basketball dominate Maryville
Well the Rams did it again! The women's basketball team completely smashed Maryville. The team worked very well together with multiple assists and 3-pointers.
Maryville came out strong, but Colorado State seemed completely within their element. They came out strong and continued all the way through. For once, there really were not a lot of fouls called on CSU. They maintained their composure even when Maryville started calling them names from the bench.
One of the funniest things that happened in the game was when Maryville got a technical foul called for their bench. They were continuously called CSU names as well as the refs. They were sore losers throughout the game and seemed to not take the final score lightly.
At times, both coaches had heated debates with the refs, which I found a little strange considering CSU was up by 30 the entire game. At one point the Maryville coach started screaming at all three refs for a bad call.
CSU continuously showed their team support. From the bench, if a player messed up, the team would be there cheering them on. This is a change from the beginning of the season, where if somebody screwed up the whole team would just act annoyed.
I only hope the team can continue to show this strong. I think they have it in them, they just have to believe in themselves. The final score was 73-35.

Great win for the women's basketball team
Another great game for the Colorado State women's basketball team. We managed to stay on top with North Dakota always trailing behind. The game was so intense all the way through the remaining seconds of the second half.
I noticed there was a lot more team work going on compared to past games. If one team member screwed up, somebody was always there to help. I could tell the team worked on this in their practices since the last home game.
"The team seemed really put together in this game," said alumni Nate Holder. "I think if they keep this up, they could have some more wins in their future."
I observed some anger on the court from both teams. Toward the end of the game North Dakota kept getting fouls called on them. Probably if they did not get so physical they might have come a little closer to winning or possibly could of won. CSU stopped getting so physical at the end and just tried to finish strong. Toward the end of the first half, fouls were being called on them practically every 30 seconds.
The final score was 58-52, with the Rams adding another win to their statistics.

Disappointing Run for Men's basketball
The men's basketball team have been doing a great job all season. They came and put up a great fight against CU, and also continue to show some great teamwork.
On Wednesday, they went up against Duke. That was just a disappointing game to watch. I feel that we could of at least come close to winning, but we kept having turnovers. At times, the team couldn't get to their position in time and it just became hard to watch.
Now Duke is one of the top basketball teams in the country. CSU had to of known that going in, I just think they needed to prepare a little more.
A week prior, we performed great against CU. That game was exciting all the way till the end. They never gave up on that game and the crowd was behind them 100%. At the end of the game, CSU charged the court showing that we still are a strong university.
I think the men's basketball team is very strong. We just need to prepare a little more and then maybe we could come out on top.

Big news at the end of the football season
The Colorado State football team has had a hard season. They started out with a strong start then decreased rapidly. Fans stopped showing up to games and nobody had faith in them by the end of the season. News came Sunday that the Head Coach of Rams football Steve Fairchild was fired.
This news was not very shocking to anyone since there had been talk about it for quite some time now. Last week, Jack Graham took over as the new Athletic Director. When this was announced, people knew it was only a matter of time to hear the news about Fairchild. Many fans were happy with the departure and thought it was time for a much needed change.
"I am so happy that he's gone," said junior, interior design major, Rose Smith. "He started out good, but after his first season, he's just done bad."
The last game of the season was played last Saturday against Wyoming. The Rams came out strong and for awhile looked as though they might win the game, but late in the fourth quarter gave it up to Wyoming. The freshman quarterback, Garrett Grayson, did a great job till the end of the fourth where he was tackled in the end zone; leading to two extra points for Wyoming.
"This was a good game, but disappointing in the end," said senior, journalism major, Jaime Tavarez. "I look forward to next season, where there will be a new coach and hopefully a rested team."
The Athletic Media Relations also announced Sunday that the coaching staff would be looking nationally for a new coach. This is a great idea because bringing someone new in, could mean major changes for the team. The new coach would hopefully bring in new ideas, and fans could see these implemented on the field.
Even though the season was not the best, it brought huge changes to the football program. Next season should bring in new ideas and plays that will hopefully make the Colorado State football program a success.

Colorado State volleyball team wins first match, falls in quarterfinals
The Colorado State volleyball team has done it again! They beat Oregon on Friday, who was ranked 13th overall in the NCAA, but fell short against Hawaii on Saturday.
They made it all the way through the quarterfinals and proved that they belonged in this group of great teams. When it was announced last Sunday, the whole team were so excited. I feel like they should be just as excited now because of their accomplishments. I'm proud of them, I mean they beat a highly ranked national team.
The Rams overall record was, 24-6 and I think that is pretty good. This really was a great season and going to a competition in Hawaii, The NCAA Championships, is something to brag about. According to the CSU Media Relations department, the volleyball team has finished for several years now with over 20 wins. We have a great volleyball team at CSU.
I feel like CSU played a great season. If they lost a game, they came back stronger the next time and won. I can only hope they will perform even stronger next year.

Getting ready for the last football game
Alright it's time for the last football game, which is of course the Border War! This is a fun time for students at both Wyoming and Colorado State to come together and try to claim the Bronze Boot. This competition has been going on basically since the start of the university.
I'm curious to see how many people actually show for this game. The weather forecast said it was supposed to be cold and snowy, so chances of students showing up are probably very slim. I'm sure there will be a good amount of Wyoming students there though, they have continued to show their support all season.
I can only hope for a good turn out tomorrow. For the people who do show up, I hope a good game will be played by both teams. CSU hasn't had a good season, but I can only hope they go out with a bang. I fully support everything they try to accomplish, and just hope they go out with a bang.
According to the Media Relations department, this rivalry is one of the longest running rivalries in college football history. The official year when the first game was played was way back in 1899. Let's hope 2011 doesn't let us down! GO RAMS!!

Men's basketball against the Buffs
Now that is the definition of an exciting game. I guess it is possible to beat the Buffs in one sport this year. The men's basketball team came together and pulled off a great game.
I was most surprised by the amount of the fans there. It could have been for the fact CSU played CU, but still, it was great to see Moby Arena filled for once. The entire student section was filled and the majority of the other sections were filled almost to the top.
I felt like the game kept going back and fourth with points, but that is how a basketball game should go. I was getting nervous that we would lose, but I still kept my faith knowing that CSU would pull through. With what felt like only a few seconds remaining, CU scored, but CSU came right back and scored the winning basket.
Anytime CSU plays CU, the arena is going to be packed. I was surprised though this season because I feel like almost every sport at CSU has lost it's fan base. Basketball is always such a fun and exciting sport, but really no students go to the games.
Overall, it was a fun, exciting and memorable game. The team played well and the fans showed support. Now if we could just beat CU in football...
