The Colorado State volleyball team this year has done a really good job at proving volleyball really is a great sport. They ended their regular season on a high, winning five straight matches. Their overall record was fantastic as well, 15-6.
It was announced Sunday that they would be competing in Hawaii at the NCAA tournament. The first round will put them up against Oregon. This will most likely be a good match since both are great teams. This announcement should be the sugar on top for the volleyball team.
They will be competing Thursday, and if they win, they will be back again in Hawaii to compete the following week. According to Colorado State's Media Relations department, the last time Oregon and CSU faced against one another was in 1984. Hawaii's arena is also known for it's tough playing area, but I think CSU can overcome it.
One disappointing thing though is that their are still people out there that do not support CSU's volleyball team. I went to the majority of the home matches this season, and there was just not the right amount of people there; including students.
Let's hope after the NCAA tournament, CSU will come together and start supporting volleyball again.

Another disappointing home loss
I have always enjoyed the game of football, especially college football. I believe every student that attends college should support their school's football team, but I know it is just getting harder for students to support Colorado State. They have not had a win at home since practically the beginning of the season and they haven't won a road game since playing Utah.
Yesterday's game was just a huge let down against Air Force. I love CSU football, but I was just upset by the plays that both the team and Head Coach Steve Fairchild were calling. Even watching the press conference after the game, Fairchild took full responsibility for the plays, he even said they were bad plays.
I love to support CSU in everything they try to accomplish, but this is just embarrassing. I remember at the beginning of the season the whole student section was filled up, now it's just about a fourth. Now this issue could be for the three 4:00 p.m. games CSU has had in a row. By the time the game is over with it feels very late and nobody wants to be out at Hughes in the middle of the night.
When Steve Fairchild first started out as the head coach for CSU, he led the team to a great season and even to the New Mexico Bowl. According to 9News, every season after his first, CSU has only won three home games and a couple away games.
We have one home game left, I know if CSU rallies together to show their support they will do well. This game should bring more students to Hughes, since it's at 12 p.m. and it's the Border War against Wyoming. Now if no students show up for this one, that's really disappointing.

Great start to womens basketball
Wow woman's basketball is actually doing pretty well. They had two exhibition games at the start of the season, which they dominated. They had their first real home game this past weekend on Sunday and again, they performed pretty well.
The two exhibition games went up against Colorado Christian University and CSU Pueblo. The first game did at first put up a bit of a challenge, but they overcame it. The second one against CSU Pueblo wasn't too bad for Colorado State. They had some tough players, but once the team saw these players, it was all over for them.
The first real home game on Sunday, put CSU up against Arizona State. From what I understand, they are a very tough team to beat. Last year, Colorado State did not even come close; this year we took them to overtime.
Ultimately we lost, but it was such an intense game. I had only heard of how boring woman's basketball can be, and this game did not feel that way to me. I can only anticipate the rest of the season and I am very excited for it.

Basketball season has begun
November is the month when both the men's and women's basketball season starts. Both teams have shown significant improvement over the last few years. Last year, the women's team finished in the middle of the pack with an overall finish of 14-16, which isn't the best, but still isn't the worst. The men's overall finish from last year was 19-13, which is a little better than the women's.
The only problem that I've found so far with both teams is that the fans don't show up. The women's team only had about 350 tickets sold for their first home game, out of the entire Moby Arena. The men's did not do much better according to the Athletic Media Relations Department.
"I would love to see more people at the home basketball games," said Vicki Parker, a normal attendee to the women's games. "I think the more people who show up, the better the team performs because they have that crowd cheering for them."
So far this season, both the men's and women's teams have won their first two exhibition games. They both have strong competition coming their way though, within the next couple weeks.
The men play against Montana on Friday and the women play against Northern Iowa on Friday as well. Now although the first games of the season are exhibition games, they still matter to the team.
"I've been happy with how both of the teams have been playing," said an alumni, Jeff Henry. "There have been problems for both teams that need to be fixed, but I think they pull through well enough to win each game."
Looking at the women's game played Saturday night, they really needed to work on their defense. The CSU-Pueblo team kept managing to work their way in and score. If the defense picked up, the opposing team would throw 3-pointers and score. Now even though Colorado State won, they still have things to fix.
Saturday's game also consisted of a lot of players getting so upset, they would get fouls called on them. Kelly Hartig for instance, just kept getting so upset she would push or just use some type of physical violence towards CSU-Pueblo. She ended up being kicked out of the game for having five personal fouls.
I think that both teams have potential for doing very well this season. They just need to work out the issues in the games and practice those. Both teams consist of some great athletes and I know they can bring their teams far.
