Homecoming Weekend 2011

FORT COLLINS, Colo.—“I’m proud to be a CSU Ram” chants could be heard all around the Colorado State campus with school spirit being as lively as ever this past CSU Homecoming. The events took place Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 all around the Fort Collins community. This is always the best time to get families, alumni, and current students together to celebrate their school spirit.

The first event started at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30; which was the CSU Homecoming parade. People and organizations from all around Fort Collins came and showed their spirit. This is always a fun experience for people of all ages.

“The parade is something I look forward to every year,” said junior psychology major, Kelsey Hammel. “I love to see families from around the community come and just have a great time.”

Other festivities that took place that evening included the pep rally and bonfire. The CSU marching band played songs all evening to help bring out the spirit. The Lil’ Rammies also put on a performance in the beginning of the rally helping to remind the school community that CSU spirit can come from all ages.

Once night fell, the bon fire was lit and fireworks were let off for all the spectators. The colors helped illuminate the sky, bringing in the entire community to the festivities.

“Friday is the best day of homecoming for my family and I,” said alumni Julianna Reed. “My kids are young and they love the candy at the parade and love the sight of the fireworks.”

The football game on Saturday filled the entire stadium with fans of all ages. The student section was practically filled all the way to the top, while the parent and alumni section was completely filled.

“Colorado State football is my life,” said alumni Anastasia Harrison. “Even though we lost this game, it was so nice to see everybody including the parents stand up and cheer for our team.”

CSU’s Homecoming was filled with so much excitement. People of all ages came and supported the Rams through each event. It was a good reminder that the people of Colorado State are proud to be CSU Rams.

Very excited for swim and dive to start!

I have always enjoyed watching the swim and dive meets. This year should bring a lot of great competition for Colorado State, but I know they can do it.

Their season starts this Friday and Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo. They will be competing against some of the best teams in Colorado and some from out of state.

This meet will be the first time CSU will be competing against Mesa State; who have done well in the past. They have never traveled to Grand Junction so this day should be a first for everyone.

These meets are so competitive and that is why I love them. The atmosphere is great with families and students cheering on the athletes.

The team this year is full of a ton of tough athletes and I think that is really going to help the team. They really need to show their tough side against all the tough competitors. All I can say is good luck this weekend and hope for the best!

Great season so far for both golf teams

The women's golf team has had a apretty good season so far. For each invitational/tournament they have placed in the top amoung the nation's national ranked teams.

This week was no different. They placed sixth out of 15 teams at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.

This entire season has been a tough one for the team in my opinion. Each of the invitationals took place on tough courses, but they still managed to finish with a great placing.

I have never been a fan of golf, but this season something is different about them. They just seem more confident with themselves and this confidence is helping them do better.

The men's golf team haven't played since last week, but they are going as strong as ever. Their last competition took place against CU for the Ryder Cup.

Colorado State has been undefeated for this cup and this year was no different. They have won this cup for three years in a row.

Both golf teams are doing so well. I just hope they keep up the good work!

All around great job volleyball!

Our volleyball team has had a great season! With only a few loses, I feel like they are unstoppable. They went on the road this past weekend and did a great job winning.

They did have a few struggles in the beginning at University of Northern Las Vegas, but still managed to pull it together and get a win. They just need to work on their defense a little more in my opinion.

At San Diego State on Sunday I felt like they improved from UNLV. They had a little better defense and had more powerful serves and sets.

They won the first two games, with the next one being a lose, but came back in the fourth for the win.

This season has been one of their best. For the past three years they have done well, but this year something is different about them. It could be the whole atmosphere of the crowd, or just better team work; whatever it is it seems to be working.

Colorado State has really shown great support for them this season. More students are showing up and the whole alumni/family section is always close to being full.

I can only hope that the volleyball team will continue this success. I think with a little practice on the defense, they have it made.

Come on CSU, I know you can do it!

This week had a lot of potential for Colorado State Athletics. Homecoming was starting, fans were getting so hyped up and ready for the wins.

CSU volleyball played Thursday night against UNLV. They played a pretty solid match, but just lost so much in the middle. Now, considering they won the match overall, that is a definite plus, but I was still overall a little disappointed.

They had so much going for them. They have had a great season so far and for a while I really thought they might be unstoppable. Now, they are doing a lot better when looking at the stats for the Mountain West verses the matches overall. They are currently undefeated in the MW, but overall I feel like they need to keep pushing themselves.

I know they can do it. Volleyball has always been one of my favorite fall sports and still is, but I just feel like they really aren't pushing themselves as much as they should be. Right now, they are rated 21st in the nation, which is REALLY good. I think if they just keep working their hardest, they will do so well for the rest of the season.

When looking at the football game that was played this past Saturday, I feel everybody is just disappointed. There was so much potential going into this game and I just feel like they blew it at the end.

CSU did come back though in the beginning, which I was so surprised about. They came up from behind with a 7-24 score at the beginning to a 31-31 with only two minutes left in the fourth. The play choices at the end were the things that just blew me out of the water.

They went for a field goal, which could have given them the chance to win, but somehow they missed it. With this miss, came the opportunity for San Jose to come back with the touchdown and win the game. I feel like the defense is the one issue that needs to be addressed. If we had a stronger defense, I think we would be golden, but so far I just have not seen it.
